A few good times in my life
These days arrived the news that London based collective Rude Audio will release a collaboration with Welsh musician Dan Wainwright called Psychedelic Science. They only released an appetizer from their forthcoming album Fire On The Mountain, but what I heard was more than I expected. Both artists were featured on this pages during the last years and they released a lot of outstanding music for me. Now they changed they musical style and combined Grateful Dead's Westcoast sound with British reggae. The result is nothing more or less a very big surprise that made me happy. I listened to this song the first time and can't stop to play it once again. This are some words they made when they released this album:
Inspired by radio play and club support from the likes of Don Letts and - bless his cotton socks and may he RIP - Andrew Weatherall and rooted in our love of US psychedelia, especially the Dead and Jefferson Airplane, we decided to buckle down and create a massive dub lp, steeped in mycological and herbal goodness, that would appeal to the head(s) and the feet and work in clubs, back rooms and bedrooms. We were joined by Ken Kesey's right hand man on the Acid Test, Ken Babbs and psychedelic and spiritual guru, Mr Ram Dass, for part of the trip.
The latest release by Rude Audio is a collaboration by Marc Ratcliff and Dan Wainwright who gave us a few of the best songs/remixes during the last year. I heard this song the first time last Friday when Spotifiy released new songs according my usual listen. It is a song that I can't get out of my head and I had to listen to it several times during the last weekend. It is a song that could appear on his missed monthly shows by Andrew Weatherall on NTS. A gritty dub inspired song starting slow and develops a spaced atmosphere the longer it goes on.
This year is almost gone and looking back on it I have say it was a horrible one. Covid-19 changed our lives completely and I suppose the life after the pandemic won't be the same any more. The virus changed the way we met, the way we work and the public life at all. Incompetent leaders and governments made the wrong decisions or ignored the risk. I can fill the list with much more but I will stop now. One of the things that made life easier was music. Retrospective I can say that it was a good year for music. The main thing this year was the day Andrew Weatherall passed away. He was the one that gave us new music - always one step ahead of us all. A year ends list could be filled nearly with of his songs and mixes. But this was already made by others from us. So I decided to make a list based on a playlist I made on Spotify for new songs that was released in 2020. This is not an ultimate list because I find almost everyday new songs from this year that will be saved on this playlist. Also the songs are with any ranking. So let's start.

A few days ago London based Stash Magnetic, a two piece electronic act, fusing influences of techno, house and rock with dark and psychedelic undertones and powerful female vocals released an EP with remixes of My Future by Dan Wainwright and Retroforward, This song is remixed by Richard Sen with a little help by Sean Johnson. It is a rugged song with arching guitar riffs in almost slow motion that leads with it's drums in higher spheres.
