Monday's Long Song

 

Shelter Me was a dance festival that took place over three days in December 2020. In their own word they said Shelter Me is a conscientious caring collective set up to raise funds, through music, in aid of homelessness in the UK and tackle a problem to our so called leaders wish to sweep under the carpet. Now this collective released an album with a lot of remixes of Strange State by artists that even played at the events. All the songs included a sample of Ofra Haza's Im Nin Alu. It's difficult to select one remix and I went for Richard Sen's version because it has a hypnotic groove all over the length of the song.

Monday's Long Song

 

Last week Dream The Dream a compilation of early UK Techno, House and backbeat curated by Richard Sen was released. The only band I knew on this sampler was Strontium 90, a short lived band in the late 70s formed by former member of French progressive band Gong N`Mike Howlett. Together with Sting and Stewart Copeland it was the pre-Police. Listening to this song I think it has nothing in common with those band because the rhythm based sound, the lyrics and the tribal led structures were untypical for them. Further investigations for this band brought me always back to the same result. It is a song that I can't get out of my mind and if anyone has more information about the band I was happy when you let me know. Have a good summer week.

Dirty Hugs

 

Yesterday a few remixes of songs from GLOK's album Pattern Recognition were released and all of them were fantastic. Regular visitors of this pages will know that I am a fan of Andy Bell and I featured his work and remixes during the last years. Richard Sen's remix of Dirty Hugs shows another time how great Bell's song were. As he did a great work on his version of Dissident he didn't disappoint the second time. He took the original 20 minutes long song and added a hypnotic krautrock inspired groove to Bell's guitar licks. A perfect start into the weekend.

A few days ago London based Stash Magnetic, a two piece electronic act, fusing influences of techno, house and rock with dark and psychedelic undertones and powerful female vocals released an EP with remixes of My Future by Dan Wainwright and Retroforward, This song is remixed by Richard Sen with a little help by Sean Johnson. It is a rugged song with arching guitar riffs in almost slow motion that leads with it's drums in higher spheres.
