Sad news arrived today that John Rebennack died last Thursday on an hear-attack at the age of 77 years. I was not a huge fan of the New Orleans sound at all but Dr. John, Allen Toussaint andWilly DeVille offered me the sound of New Orleans. It is a mixture of R 'n' B, soul and Caribbean music that fit my soul a lot of times during the last decades. Dr. John was an excellent piano player and producer in his career and a bird of paradise when he appeared live on stage. Covered with feathers as hit outfit he celebrated his very own sound of New Orleans. It was at this time when everything was allowed in modern music. Zappa made his weired sound, Rundgren tried to make the perfect song and Captain Beefheart tried to definite blues in it's very special way. But Dr. John made made the basis for Southern soul music. It wasn't always easy to listen to his songs but if you got the connection to them they could be a part of your very own musical history and education. Probably that is the reason Paul Weller covered this song years ago.
Rest well Dr. John
