Kiwi

Bildergebnis für moebius

Joe Goddard, founding member of Hot Chip and producer released Jack Come Back/LakE an EP with own works and Kiwi (a band/project I couldn't find any informations). Kiwi has been working with Goddard a few times over the last years and coming back with two more great songs. KatE brings us double bass slaps against a rigorous rhythm section and haunting pads and psychedelic voices at the start and the end.

I can't resist to feature Joe Goddard's Moebius Trip, a Detroit techno inspired ride on melodic synths and crumpled beats.

House Again

Bildergebnis für george best

Sadly saw Island playing their last game at the WC. They were so much better in the first half and they had to make a few goals. But they lost against Croatia. I really loved this team because they showed to me everything that means football to me: passion, volition to win, faith in their abilities and never giving up. For me it is the team of the tournament.

As you might know, my musical taste changes from time to time. I am into every kind of genre that was published throughout the last decades. At this time I feel save with some electronic music and I can't tell you the reason why it is this way. Sometimes an artist release a new record that is out of my radar in new music but listening to it it gives me some kind of thrill. This happened to me when I listened to the new album by Martijn Dejikers aka Martyn, a Dutch producer and DJ. He started working on a drum and bass sound and included techno and jungle to his sound. Last year he almost suffered a near-fatal heart attack. His latest album Voids is the essence of his work. Songs with a warm and also rainy-day atmosphere and moody drums. It is not the music for every day but it works fine for me at this time.

Singularity

Bildergebnis für jon hopkins

As you might know my musical spectrum is wide open and it spreads from the 60's until now music today. During the last years I learned a lot of electronic music (and one of my inspirations were Adam). To get in touch with house music is not easy but if you have some open ears and you are willing to sink into music sometimes you won't get disappointed. Many of the works of Jon Hopkins impressed me much and I was curious about his latest album Singularity. And it was like ever - working on his house sound with a lot of loops and piano improvisations to create his very unique sound. I liked what I heard and looking forward to see him live in five weeks.

Gravity

Bildergebnis für balearic sound

Never thought that I will ever post music by Russians but this track is worth it. Moonbeam is a long time collaboration of two brothers doing their DJ-thing. It's a track between trance, progressive house and atmospheric techno. Just right to start the day with the first cup of coffee on the balcony.

Enjoy weekend.

Mystery

I found this little pop gem a few days before. Boxed In is the name of the project by the Manchester based producer and songwriter Oli Bayston. In his music he combines elements of House, Electronica and a little bit Krautrock: driving bass, looped drums, hypnotic rhythm and keybords.

Von Spar

Today's tracks are from a Cologne, Germany based band called Von Spar. Wikipedia tells that they should categorized under danceable electro-punk with elements of indi-rock. The tracks I know are more influenced by late Krautrock. Their newest single sounds like laid back House in a pop mood added with some piano parts and strings. It's worth to give a listen to.

This is an older one and more House. And there is more independent in it

Medicina Sagrada

A few weeks ago I bought a CD-Compilation called The Tropical Club Night. Compiled by a German DJ called Ralph von Richthoven (what a name) there are a lot of fantastic tracks on this record. All the stuff is latin-influenced Dance-groove between House, Electro and Dub.

Window

In my circle of friends there are only a few which are interested in new electronic music. Most of them compare this kind of genre with simple techno the way H.P. Baxxter aka Scooter does. But if you into into it is worth to have a look over the border to Austria. During the last years a scene has set up there and create new impulses over and over again. One of those I listen often is a band from Vienna called HVOB (Her Voice Over Boys). Musically the duet moves between House, electronic music and pop music and HVOB hold her songs rather minimalist and unfold a melancholy atmosphere.

The Foreign Correspondent Returns - Stories About German Rock Music # 35

The basic idea which I had with this series was to be indicated the spectrum of the German rock music. Besides, of course I have also been guided towards my personal predilections. During the past months I had been able to cover very much a large part of it. What is absent the electronic music and the scene still is itself in Germany during the last years has set up and receives bigger and bigger meaning - and even if it is for the generation that has grown in the last decades again. I'm really not the one that is in for this kind of music but the older I get the more I get into this genre - even if friends of mine ignore still this kind of music. Throughout the last weeks I searched for this music at different places and I would like to introduce you 2raumwohnung (2 space flat).2raumwohnung is a German electric pop duo which was founded about 2000 in Berlin. Members are the singer Inga Humpe and her lifelong companion Tommi Eckart. While typing this words a smile came over my face when I remember that I featured her several times in this series. She was a leading member of Neonbabies - a Berlin based band that came up with the German Punk and New Wave scene. I followed her from this time - sometimes closer and sometimes from the distant. But I always noticed her musical output. They simply did electro pop and they had good critics when they released their first record. And it looked in such a way as if they had caught with her light and a little esoteric songs the spirit of the times at that time. With a little success in their back they decided to make a remix-version of their first record where they played with other influences like Techno and House. If you have open ears for different kind of music or if you are in the mood electronic music - try them.

Here for comparison there is the original and in each case a Remix

Eurodance

Last week a cultural broadcasting station started like every summer a series about the decades in popular music. In several episodes is tried to catch the spirit of the times of this decade. It is also lighted up which influence this decade had for the following years. Besides, it is not exclusively about music, but also about fashion and the cultural life. This season they arrived in the 90s. I watched a documentary about Eurodance last weekend. Eurodance calls a style direction within the electronic dance music which was very popular beginning in the 1990s above all in Europe and produced numerous charter result. A combination of dance rhythm, pop refrain and rap stanza is typical. Later other, more body-stressing styles like Techno and House became in the discos increasingly more popular. I remember most of these popular songs very well even though this kinda music wasn't compatible for the rock purists. You may like this music or not but it was essential for the upcoming electronic music as we know it today. Here are some songs that I think are typical for this music.
