A few weeks ago I bought a CD-Compilation called The Tropical Club Night. Compiled by a German DJ called Ralph von Richthoven (what a name) there are a lot of fantastic tracks on this record. All the stuff is latin-influenced Dance-groove between House, Electro and Dub.

Witness

There are less musicians I follow more or less since I have listened the first time to somewhat of them. One of those is Brian Eno. I know him from the early days when he formed Roxy Music - a band their type is to be assigned stylistically to the art-rock genre and was a heavy influence to the later New Romantic Scene. With his first solo recordings he left the classic rock genre to go experimental ways. I think his fist two records were underrated to most listeners but had influence to later experimental bands that play still. Ok - don't let's talk about the past. Brian Eno released a few month ago another album in collaboration with Karl Hyde. When you remember with which different kind of musicians he worked together it is no surprise that now came together with Underworld's Karl Hynde. They tried to combine both musical worlds with the African sound of bands like Fela Kuti. And the result is very worth listening to. Just listen to Witness that starts with a bumping bassline and leads us over a little piano to a smooth synth melody.

Reach For The Dead

For the start into the new week I picked out tune from one of the best records last year. It's from one of my favorite Scottish duos playing fantastic electronic music. Boards of Canada didn't made any record I know that was not very good an full of ideas and experiments. Reach for the dead starts with some sample loops that may rush for themselves alone put and crack, before carefully synthesizers spread on them , single beats start, condense tact for tact to a rhythm and help the track after just three minutes to develop in full blossom. Always worth to listen.

A Love From Outer Space

Recent days I listened a few times to different remixes of this song. I thought by myself often where the hell I know this song from. Being sure that it wasn't Andrew Weatherall that gave me this song - only fantastic remixes of them. While working on my series it occurred to me suddenly. It was on the 1989 album from A.R.Kane with the short title 'I'. A.R.Kane were a British dream pop duo, hailed from East London and also a part of the recording collective MARRS. While their first record was more into the rock clichè their second turned into trip hop and acid house. I got them records on recommendation in the late 1980s and played them a few times. At this time their music was pretty disturbing - not really rock music and not pop music. But later I found out that their music was a kind of blueprint of the future dancefloor sound.

Sometimes I wonder why Scotland has produced so many great bands in the past years. Maybe it's because they life in their very own tradition absorbing a lot of styles and develop their very own one. One of this bands is Boards of Canada a band formed by the brothers Michael and Marcus Eoin Sandison. Played together since they were young they had their first releases in the middle of the 1990s. Their first full record from 1998 was well recommended by critics as well as by John Peel. All over the years the years they released only a few albums and a few EPs but still high quality. Their sound is a very own mixture of electric music played with analog instruments and some samples that make a warm and emotive sound. This song is from their record 'The Campfire Headphase' released on Warp Records in 2005

Kid Creole and the Coconuts was an American musical group created and led by August Darnell. Its music incorporates a variety of styles and influences, in particular "American and Latin American, South American, Caribbean, Trinidadian, Calloway" and conceptually inspired by the big band era. The Coconuts are a glamorous trio of female backing vocalists whose lineup has changed throughout the years. This year was all that punks, teds, rockers and headbangers interact in that group (maybe only because of the female backing vocalist). 

Inspired by Cab Calloway and the Hollywood films of the 30s and 40s, the Kid fills out his colorful zoot suits with style and grace, dancing onstage with his inimitable, relentless and self-proclaimed cool. Many of the regular DJ's from our pub joined for their concert and I remember that it was wonderful. Perfect in music and choreography on stage.

Now good half a year has passed, since I have put my Blog on-line. Starting a few posts a week and turned now to a daily posting. Written some personal stuff and also posted some music by my choice to please all the followers. Thank you all for the good and friendly response. I'll try to keep my level on the forthcoming post and look forward to your comments. 

C. and me are busy creating a social project in Sri Lanka. Some might know that we spent several times there and that we are close to a family living there. It is our personal aim to help them to create a business, it enables to them to be able to deny from this her living. More details you can find here.

Here's another gem from the late 70s. It is from the Tom Robinson Band and released in 1978. In this time it was called Punk music, but for me it was only R'n'R, played with enthusiasm, a very good feeling for hooks and transporting messages that were important to T.R. Maybe he was one of the first artist who outed himself as gay and also having success.
