Another journey through decades of music and genres.

1969: True soul-funk by Sly and the Family Stone

1973: Little Feat was one of the only bands you could listen with joy in pre-punk days.

1978: Steely Dan was the only old school band I listened to when punk arrived.

1967: A highlight of British blues-rock by Eric Burdon and the Animals when he told us tales from his younger days.

1996: Foo Fighters released a superb example of alternative power pop.

1984: A very fine song by R.E.M. from their excellent second album.

1977: Blondie appeared on the scene with one of her best songs.

1975: Rubber Bullets by 10cc was one of the earliest singles I ever bought.

Xmas In February

 

Can't really believe that we have February now and left one month behind this year. Time is running and the day of my retirement will come soon. I searched for a song that contains February in it's title I found a song by Foo Fighters but decided to feature Lou Reed at this place. Xmas in February is from his 1989 classic New York - probably his best album in his late career. This album is full of great songs with great lyrics and one of those which I can listen from start to end.

Don't know why this song has came to my mind but I can't get them off my mind. Tony Joe White was an American guitarist and singer and known as a main figure of Southern American blues and swamp rock. He had no big commercial success except Pork Salad Annie but appeared on many albums as a session musician. He died a couple of years ago at the age of 75 and if you have a bit affection to blues rock you should give him a listen.

Foo Fighters

Foo Fighters are as known the usual band former Nirvana drummer David Grohl plays with. I am not a big fan of the band but they made a several songs I could agree with during the last years. The terrorist attacks in Paris the Foo Fighters has broken off her European tour on the occasion of that and has dedicated to the victims own album. If somebody lives nowadays still the old rock-'n'-roll romanticism, is Dave Grohl, it was the more obvious for the tape to realise thus an underpinned: Taking up brand-new music about the week-end, in a Location which was not conceived, actually, at all for it. "Thank You" to the fans should become "Saint of Cecilia" - a thank-you for the last twenty years. Recorded in a small hotel in Austin, Texas it is a small gift from a band playing their very own Rock 'n' Roll. Here's the link for a free download of the EP.
