The Mexican

 

Babe Ruth is one of these forgotten bands that made a song in the early 70's that might be known be the elder ones but not often played these days. The Mexican is probably the song you could combine with this band. A song their first album First Base that combines classic rock styles with the music of Ennio Morricone. It was one of those songs from my very early days when I were introduced to music by older mates and one of those I come back from time to time. What this song makes outstanding is that they gamble with different genres. I don't know if this song is close to someone out there but for me it is a classic from almost 50 years ago and I still love it.

It took decades until I heard another song that was similar to this. I had to wait until it was featured in Tarantino's Kill Bill II. This appearance by Chingon was outstanding for me because I seldom saw artists play a song in a relaxed way they did.

It is just a Sunday with nothing to do than checking the letters I got during the week, pay some bills, relax and doing nothing till I go out to watch some game on telly. By doing this stuff I watched a movie along - Inglorious Basterds. For a movie, made by Quentin Tarrantino there was less song in the movie. But one of them I give you for Sunday.

It's made as title track for the 1982 movie with the same title. I think it is a co-production with Girorgio Moroder - a legendary producer in his time. For me it is David Bowie's last song, where he influenced musicians of the next generation. In this song he combines Goth themes with the deep voice that was well known some years later as the Sisters of Mercy.

Relaxing with movies

 


After a couple of busy days in Colombo (staying at the embassy to get a visa for our friend) we took one day off just to relax in our apartment. We have an full equipment of TV and DVD in our living room. Therefor we bought in a store next to us some DVD's. Of course you can fiend there no legal copies of movies. They are all ripped in Malaysia to be sold all over in asia. But anyway: I was surprised of the quality and the mass of absolutly new movies that were offered.We grabbed about 10 movies , in fact each DVD costs only 100 rupies, what mean in EURO 60 cents.

Besides the new movie by Steven Spielberg (Lincoln with Daniel Day Lewis) we bought the new movie from Quentin Tarrantino - Django unchained. I am a great fan of Tarrantino since I saw Reservoir dogs in 1992. His latest movie is one of his best ever, with once again a superp actor like Christoph Waltz. Go out and watch the movie.
