Since the late 60's Steve Hillage was a well known guitarist and member of the Canterbury psychedelic rock scene. 45 years ago he moved to New York to record his second solo L. Together with Todd Rundgren he made a classic cosmic rock album. Unusually for him he recorded a couple of cover versions. Donovan's Hurdy Gurdy Man is one of these examples how to turn a simple folk song into a spaced out guitar sound.

I think I may have mentioned previously how much of a Gong / Steve Hillage fan I was before punk came along. Unfortunately, for some reason I felt I had to to dispatch large sections of my pre-punk record collection (including the aforementioned artists) when it was all kicking off towards the end of the 1970s, something I've regretted ever since. I'm still replacing them to this day. I actually had tickets to see Steve Hillage playing his early stuff in 2020 when the pandemic hit. Sadly he's decided to scrap the shows completely instead of rescheduling them.
