Hunter

Bildergebnis für anna calvi

Probably the greatest, cleverest and most erotic album was released by Anna Calvi a few weeks ago. Calvi's first album was a word-heavy statement in indie music. I missed her second album where she made some experiments in eclectic sounds she is now back and better than before. Hunter is still more concentrated and has got in the good sense more roughly than his predecessor's work. She stands for a dark archaic sound in the tradition of The Bad Seeds with hooks, rhythms and intelligent lyrics. And after all she likes to destroy her songs by heavy guitars. All in all one of those records that will be on the shortlist for 2018.

Glitter

Bildergebnis für daniel avery

Daniel Avery is joining Jon Hopkins on his North American tour and Jon Hopkins made a remix of Avery's Glitter. The result is a fantastic  collaboration made in heaven. A more than seven minute journey through electronic percussive rhythms. I read these words in the internet and it describes all:

“Hopkins adapts the celestial, choral elements of the original track, layering them atop a heavy, almost-meditative bass weight, resulting in a remix that compliments the work of both artists in its unforgiving yet introspective quality.”

And Nothing Hurt

Jason Pierce aka former Spaceman 3 and now Spiritualized released a new album these days. And it filled just what I expected: Some semi-acoustic love songs like The Morning After and punpers like A Perfect Miracle or On The Sunshine where he puts out his guitar and takes us to a ride into space-rock, jazzy heaven. You ought to listen to this songs loud so that you can hear the the greatness of this songs between traditional songwriting and spaced out feed-back sound. Not the music that gets into your ears and stay at your attention but if you listen several times you will listen to an album Pierce worked for years to deserve it to us.

Three In A Row

Bildergebnis für hauptbahnhof kirchheim unter teck

No theme, no story and not planed. Just three songs that shuffled on my mobile phone yesterday morning on my way to office. All of them different and I have to admit that I didn't listen to them for longer times and they didn't lost any attraction to me. It always makes me happy to start the working hours with songs these.

Understanding Jane

Beggars Banquet - The Collection (2-CD) - Bild 1

Last weekend I was searching for a CD in my collection that I wanted to listen and a compilation of Beggars Banquet came to my appearance. I didn't listen to this double CD for ages and was surprised to how much songs I was familiar. There are long forgotten songs on this compilation and listening to the various and very different artists they took me back to 1991 and the mood I was in at this time. You might know that I listen to a lot of new stuff that was released and often I am pleased but I will never forget the music that was a big part of my life way back in time.

Songs You Make At Night

Bildergebnis für Tunng

Seldom the title of an album reflects the music like the new album by British folk band Tunng. This album was recommended in a newspaper a few days ago with an enthusiastic review that made me investigate for more of them. Tunng were often named as a part of folktronica - a genre that seldom crossed my way during the last years. I have to admit that I always thought it is impossible to do this. Either you play traditional folk or you doing something in an electronic way. But Tunng showed me that it is possible. They are able to make pure folk songs like Crow as well as ABOP a deep bassy dub inspired track. Don't know if bleepy folk is an existing genre but this will describe their sound at the best. It is sound that accompanies you when you drifting from night into day.

The Bundesliga started last week and I will go for the first game in Stuttgart later this afternoon. We will play against mighty Bayern Munich and hopefully we won't lose too high.
