In 2003 The Decline Of British Sea Power was released as the band's debut album. This album was rightly celebrated by critics. Their glam-punk-pop was something completely new at the time. Bowie-esque songwriting meets wailing guitars and dark lyrics to create an unmistakable sound. With Lately, they have created their own monument on this album. A song that starts slowly ends in an angry, distorted guitar orgy that couldn't be better. A masterpiece that should definitely be listened to again.

In 2003 British Sea Power released their epic debut album The Decline Of British Sea Power and I think it is time to remember to this. Formed by the Jan Scott Wilkinson in Reading at the beginning of the new century the relocated to Brighton in a search of a more active music scene.

After a live gig they were signed by Rough Trade records and soon their debut was released. It is an impressive record, inspired by The Cure, Joy Division and The Pixies. The album contains both short, red-hot up-tempo numbers and melodic, dreamy ballads inspired by post-punk.

Lately captures the essence of their sound. They slowly build up a harmonious, resonant structure that is thoroughly deconstructed at the end.

Three In A Row

No theme, no story and not planed. Just three songs that shuffled on my mobile phone yesterday morning on my way to office. All of them different and I have to admit that I didn't listen to them for longer times and they didn't lost any attraction to me. It always makes me happy to start the working hours with songs these.

British Sea Power are back with a new record Let The Dancers Inherit The Party. I always liked their very own sound influenced by The Cure, The Pixies and other heroes of this decade. It is still fun listening to their emphatic and emotional intensity. And not to forget their perfect rhythm section and their brilliant guitars. You can call this retro-sound but of course but sometimes it is good that some things don't change.
