Monday's Long Song

 

During the last weeks I found less time to continue my blog, because friends of mine from Sri Lanka are visiting me and I spent a lot of my free time with them taking some vacations and showing them some beautiful places around my home area. So I found less time to listen to music and visiting other blogs like I use to. Today I like to feature a song by Alexandre Gimard aka Margee a DJ and producer from Southern France I rediscovered again before I moved to France last week. Hardway Bros remixed his song Wrong Dream back in 2021. Still a killer track on the dancefloor and a sadly an overlooked release from two years ago.

SUSS are a NYC-based quartet playing a different kind of guitar dominated music. I featured them months ago due to the release of their last album Promis. A few months ago they released Night Suite, the first EP of a series of Ambient-country sound. It is a combination of their unique combination of classic Americana instrumentation wit pedal steel, deep tempered guitar and harmonica interwoven with loops and synthesizers. Therefore they left the east-coast and moved to Arizona and New Mexico to fathom the possibilities of new desert music. The result was an atmospheric piece of music showing a new kind of music that works well in midnight to dawn.

Last week Swiss Adam made a great post about Robert Calvert and Hawkwind that made me pick up an old record by Hawkwind that I almost forgot over the years. In Search Of Space was their second album and for me the essence of the band and an album that combined krautrock elements with spaced out hard rock. Probably the originals could handle their instruments better but the members of Hawkwind didn't give a damn about this maybe because they didn't have any ambition to be rock stars and rather using drugs and booze. Lester Bangs once described this album as monotone jammings with hypnotic rhythms and solo unravelling off into space. The synthesizers warble, woof and scream and gurgle like barfing computers, the drums pound, and the singers chant unknown tongue rebobs. There is nothing more to add.

I found this little gem a few days ago when I was searching for something else. Drive is from Spacemen 3's last 12-inch from 1990 when the band was close to disbanding. A piece of music they stood for. Jangling and repetitive guitar picking over a steady melodic flow. It shows how great the band and their influences were.
