Those Words

April is gone and one-third of the year is gone and I ask myself another time where time has gone. With May we should leave the cold and wet days finally behind us and we probably can look into a brighter future. This decampment could accompanied with Mattiel's new single Those Words. She gave us two superb and soulful albums that I often came back during the last years. Now it seems that she changed the soul for a more clean record and turned into a guitar pop sound. If it works well this means nothing. A song that had become a summer hit in former times.

This Year's Records 4/18

Mattiel sounds as if Nancy Sinatra on the Black Keys would sing. The debut of Mattiel Brown from Atlanta is retro without end. Why not? Retro is good when it discovers new in the old person. And this is here the case. It is of course a retro sound that she offers but who will care if it is true to the origial sound? Of course one of the best retro-sounded albums of the year and I still listen to it with great joy.

Another New Voice For Your Ears

Bildergebnis für mattiel

Another new name came to my ears the recent days. I didn't know anything about Mattiel before she released her first album these days. She's working as an illustrator for commercial companies and music was more or less a hobby until she decided to make a full-length record. Her songs are deeply based in vintage Rock 'N' Roll and could appear on different Tarantino-soundtracks. There are many other influences in her sound but the songs are often dominated by a picked electric guitar strings and her voice that reminds me to Nancy Sinatra.
