The Chemical Brothers will be back this year with a new album. No Reason is the first harbinger of the new album that Tom Rowlands and Ed Simons are currently working on. After a 25-second drumroll acid synth intro, one would probably expect a hard, gloomy techno track. But that's not exactly what the Chemical Brothers' new single "No Reason" is. At the climax (drop in EDM-speak) there is suddenly this funky bassline. And as if that wasn't enough to make a good song, the bass and the drums pause every now and then. If I go diving into this kind of genre I will surly not miss this song.

Last Friday our friend JC over at The New Vinyl Villain posted a superb story about Chemical Brothers' Surrender 20th Anniversary Vinyl Box. He was tempted to release a 21 minute version of Out Of Control but finally selected another song. Thankfully he delivered me a copy and after listening to a tour-de-force of dance music I think it is necessary to feature it on this series. Written together with Bernard Sumner from New Order and backing vocals by Bobby Gillespie the song has a fantastic base line and guitar and synths keep pushing this song forward. A mad psychedelic mix full of echoes and beats from an era long gone by but still at the height of time.

Welsh producer and DJ Alexander Paul Coe aka Sasha announced a compilation of electronic music a few weeks ago. He was influenced by acid house music and the Hacienda scene in Manchester and got critical respect for his remixes of songs by The Chemical Brothers, Madonna and Moby. His latest project was inspired by an Spotify-playlist called LUZoSCURA and with many other artists he made a compilation showing the possibilities of uniting different styles like breakbeat, ambient and melodies. This one is by himself and shows how good his project can work.

I always liked the voice of Beth Orton and a many of their songs. As long as I know her she made her very own mixture of folk and electronica. During the last years she made collaborations with Red Snapper and Chemical Brothers and these song have an own kind of magic. Now Beth released a new record and it is much more based in club music than before. On this record for me it is like she has one finger on the acoustic string and the other on the loops. Very clearly, very much focused and emphasised the songs romp about between blustering Tribal beats, vague D'n'B clicks and Orton's inimitable voice. Another music for late at the evening.

I was never a huge fan of that so called Big Beats in the early 1990s but liked some of the Chemical Brother's songs. I almost forgot them and now they are going to release a new record these days. The songs I listened to was like they are going back to where they started. An analog synthesizer rolls on and flows into the typically pressing, add some oppressive sequence sound with a nasty guitar to hit the massive bass and beats being based in their typical groove.
