Monday's Long Song

 

When Spiritflesh's first full album with the same title came out in 2018, I had never heard anything like it and still haven't. This is a unique piece of British electronic music that blurs the boundaries between club music and doom with its radicalism.

In Bristol, two DJ's, Julian Raymond-Smith and Boris English have locked themselves in a basement with gritty dub techniques that spread across post-punk, drone, doom metal and techno shards to open up new worlds. All songs are based on tribal rhythms over which they lay bleebs and spherical sounds.

A dark journey into a world of dangerous sounds that will make you shudder with pleasure. Another piece of experimental music that made it into my annual review, but was unfortunately overlooked by most people.

Ever Impending Doom

The first full week of work after my hiatus is done and it happened what I suspected. My colleague left my a lot of work to that he should be done by him. So I had a few days of almost ten hours working days and came home leached out often and wanted nothing more but to recreate and listen to some music or watching TV. and hadn't the power to work on the blog. Now the backlog is worked off and from the next week on my work is regulated and it will work in the way it used to be. While recreating with music I remembered a record that I forgot to put on my list of records from last year. I can't explain why I forgot Spiritflesh's self titled record from last year. I featured the best song nearly three month ago on the Monday's Long Song series. The album is the latest release of Bristol's artists October and Borai. A dark and rhythmic excursion into atmospheric House and Dancefloor. Someone wrote about this album:

A slow-marching dread of bassweight pressure collides with the cloying grit of distortion, lurid effects processing and heavy synths. There's no explicit theme to the record but it comes on like a sonic depiction of the mystery, beauty and panic of an ill-fated expedition in an imagined tropics.

Monday's Long Song

Something new for this series. A few weeks ago Spiritflesh, the latest collaboration from Bristol-based artists Julian Smith and Boris English released their first full length album. The ones of you that are interested in dance and electronic music might know them as October & Borai. A massive bass collides with tribal sound and heavy synths. This song is a kind of the centrepiece of this album with it's grungy bass, sweeping synths and meditative rhythm. This will be a record I will be on heavy rotation the next days.
