Sometimes I am surprised where a musical education leads artists to. I typed Regina Spektor as a singer/songwriter based on folk music. Knowing that she plays the piano well and made some songs that are really good. She always tried to spread her sound into indie and piano-pop. So I was surprised watching the  video of her new songs in which she turns to Hip-Hop. Added with a massive orchestra sound she created a song that is too good for mainstream stations. Chapeau Mrs. Spektor.

Today I woke up in an unusually manner early after a long and healthy sleep. So I got up, made me a good cup of coffee and went out on my balcony to watch the morning sunrise knowing that this is probably the last sunny day before autumn will come changing the leaves into beautiful colours. While I was sitting there the radio played the newest song by Bon Iver and I  thought it is the right one to post it on Sunday. If you don't know Bon Iver is the band project by American folk-singer/songwriter Justin Vernon. When he started back in 2007 he released a very intimate record recorded in a cabin in the forest. In the following steps of his career he added soul and R'n'B to his sound to get well known for a lot of people. For the newest evolution of his sound he used some electronic elements in his sound. For me a very good mix of electronic, pop, country and gospel but all this ingredients are just to assist the modulation of his voice.

All I Want Is To Be Your Girl

If you want to have a relaxed sound to start into a sunny Sunday morning then try this. Holly Miranda is a Detroit based musician playing her songs in the tradition of the good old singer/songwriter style. What makes her different is that she adds folk, country and some kind of punk attitude into her sound. And ready is snotty love song with great lines like The days are shorter and the nights are long / We could fuck in the sun and dance till dawn.

Iron Moon / Mew

Chelsea Wolfe, the American singer/songwriter appeared with a new LP called Abyss on the scene. I think it's her best output right now and she found her style. She's got now the balance between the tribute to Curt Cobain, black metal, doom, gothic rock and Scandinavian influenced folk. Her songs are dark and euphoric. A record in the tradition of the early 1980s played in a contemporary sound. The music is different but if you take the time to listen you will see the beauty in these songs.

Hang My Head In Shame

2014 was a good year in music. One record that accompanied all over the year was Theosophy by Pete Molinari. There are wonderful songs on it. It's a very retro recording. Influenced by the 60s singer/songwriters, 60s London music and a little bit of American Garage Rock.
