1967 - Buffalo Springfield released their only chart success. For What It's Worth became an anthem of the opponents of the Vietnam war.

1977 - Boz Scaggs is an musician which has never been mentioned in this blog before. He is well known in America but he was never the big thing with his honest rhythm & blues. His album Silk Degrees reached the top ten at the time, was pleasant to listen to and very similar to the sound of Graham Parker.

1986 - Simply one of the best pop songs from this year and one that made The Bangles everybody's darlings.

1978 - American Girl was the last song on Tom Petty's debut album and shows his ability to write catchy songs that have lost none of their class even after decades.

1965 - Martha Reeves & the Vandellas are one example, why you should dive into 60's soul from time to time.

1982 - ABC released their their debut album The Lexicon Of Love. One that you can either hate or love, because their completely arranged songs are very close to kitsch. But there are some damn good songs on the album.

1956 - Hard to believe that this song by Gene Vincent and his Blue Caps is almost 70 years old. For me is this song more rock and roll than from other artists of this era.

1981 - The Jam. Just another great song from them.

Rumble And More In Brighton

It was 40 years ago when my musical preferences changed massive into an new sound that was raw, fast and new when a band appeared that really confused me. Stray Cats from from the melting pot of these days moved to Britain with their own interpretation of classic Rock 'n' Roll in the tradition of Eddie Cochran and Gene Vincent and met another addicted one by the name of Dave Edmunds who produced their first album. It was a kind of shock when we listened to their old fashioned music but most of us agreed to their music in these days. It was not another ride on the best of the early days of rock, it was transformation of good old music into the nowaday scene. I remember a lot of greasers moved from their cellars into the streets celebrating their music and I have to admit that I loved their music back then and now because I move back to rockabilly from time to time.

Twanging Tuesday # 92

Gene Vincent was one of those artists that grew up in the Southern states of the United States with a lot of influence of Country, Rhythm and Blues and Gospel. After school he signed to the Navy and was a part of the army in the Korean war. After an accident with his motorcycle his leg was damaged and he had to wear a metal rail. That's the reason why he didn't move much when he was performing. Be-Bop-A-Lula is his most popular song and always worth to listen sometimes.

Twanging Tuesday # 74

In the early 1980s the American band Stray Cats appeared on the scene and brought us back Rockabilly with a heavy influence of New Wave and Punk. Close to their idols Eddie Cochran and Gene Vincent they played a new style of Rockabilly, produced by Dave Edmunds who is also based in this genre. It was the hippiest sound of this summer and still a band I like to listen to after all these years.

This one's a classic tune from 1956 - almost 60 years ago but still a song you can listen to and get your memories sorted from years long gone by. This song is one of those who accompanied me for ages. Enjoy this classic tune and have a good time.

Another tune from the great Gene Vincent that makes me satisfy. Sometimes I could hear his songs in a row and sometimes they are out of my mind. Race with the devil is one of the songs that should be played more in the times when it was released. Enjoy the song and have a good time.

Impressed by the music of Gene Vincent and Elvis Presley Vince Taylor started to sing. With his brother in law he came to England for a business trip. He met there the other musicians  to form the Playboys. His first single records Pledging my love and Brand New Cadillac weren't big successful. He was famous for his outfit dressed full in black leather and crazy wild live shows. Using drugs and his extrovert life-style ruined his career. He would be presumably forgotten, if The Clash did not have covered his song on London Calling. His legacy was his great influence to Glam Rock an Punk with his outfit and his wild shows (remember Gary Glitter and Alvin Stardust)
