New Song On Sunday

Warmduscher are a London based post-punk and formed by members of Fat White Family and electronic collective Paranoid London. Noise rock collides with garage post-punk, distorted blues and lo-fi funk with broken synth sprinklings. The motto seems to be deconstruction instead of composition – but with groove, please.

Last week, they released a new single featuring a remix by David Holmes. Holmes transforms the short original, which lasts just under two minutes, into a club-ready electronic anthem whose pull never lets up.

Purple Haze, Yellow Sunrise

The Vendetta suite is the project of  Gary Irwin a well known name in Belfast's music scene. In 2021 he released his first album The Kempe Stone Portal and one year later some remixes. His long time friend David Holmes remixed Purple Haze, Yellow Sunshine into a gem of ambient tones and psychedelic electronics.

Today I'm off for a couple of days visiting Krakow, Poland. Will be back next week with more.

This Year In Music - Part V

Here comes the rest of the show of albums that impressed me very much this year. Slowdive is a band that was named together with other shoegaze bands but for me they were always Mogwai's little brother that could also play great ballads over extended guitar and synth patterns. everything is alive could be their breakthrough to a wider audience.

Konformer is a three piece band from Nuremberg, Germany that I got aware by recommendation by Adam from Bagging Area earlier this year. Five instrumentals on their self titled LP are all awesome, just because I don't know any band at this time making cosmic and dark inspired music like they do.

Kevin Rowland is back with another album I bought blind before I ever heard any song of it. Just because he can't make any worse record for me. And my high expectations were fulfilled. Northern soul inspired songs alternate with intimate ballads. Certainly a record that will be played often at my place.

David Holmes was very busy this year and while I prepared this list he released Blind On A Galloping Horse an album that is ahead of many others. Together with Raven Violet he showed his spectrum in electronic music. There was no filler on this record and probably a masterpiece.

From Edinburgh multi-instrumentalist John Brydon appeared as Eyes Of Other, a band many people could agree. It is impressive how many ideas he combined into a very unique sound. One of those albums you could play in a row without getting bored.

Blind On A Galloping Horse

It's November and, like every year, I'm thinking about a year-end list and, as always, there's another album that shouldn't be missing from such a list. David Holmes, an Irish DJ and producer who has managed to gain respect in the DJ camp as well as in the alternative scene over the past few years, recently released Blind on a Gallopping Horse. Together with Raven Violent, who already left her unmistakable mark with her voice on his side product Unloved, an album of positive songs in a negative time was created. Blind On A Galloping Horse is a multi-faceted record with a lot to discover and an absolutely positive example of how the gloom of the world can be addressed without letting despair win out. On Necessary Genius he pays tribute to 'dreamer, misfits, radicals, outcasts' who are no longer with us and includes shout-outs to Weatherall, Terry Hall, Sinéad O'Conner, Serge Gainbourgh & Jane Birkin and more. Still underlaid with a dancable beats.

Yeah x 3 is proofs that he's able to make a softer pop song that should appear in every top 40 this year,

No One Is Smarter Than History

Many of the regular visitors on this small piece or internet will know that I have  huge affinity to David Holmes, an Irish musician, producer and DJ. For me he creates sounds that fit to my ears and his mixes were more than worth to listen. A few months ago he released a single that is more over the average in this genre than many others I listened to the last weeks. A catchy song that doesn't get out of your head if you listen to it the first time. A song that could appear in many year end lists.

I Am A Strange Loop

Earlier this year Andy Bell released his last album Flicker one of the best albums released this year. It was on heavy rotation at my place since I fought this record and now he released an EP of remixes from a couple of songs. DJ's like David Holmes and Richard Norris took over the controls and reworked one of the finest songs. The result was a new interpretation of Andy's songs and always a great work. You can hear more of this reworks here. I think that this record will be played more than once at my place.

Purple Haze, Yellow Sunrise

One of those albums that I played often during last year was The Kempe Stone Portal by The Vendetta Suite. Not only because it was not only one sound. Gary Irwin, the mastermind behind this showed us his inspirations he got through the last decades. From Weatherall to The Orb he combined almost everything in between. Now a few songs were remixed and I can't get enough of the remix by David Holmes. He and Irwin shared a long friendship over a few decades and the result is a unique mixture of ambient and psychedelic sounds. One of the best decisions to relax after another hard day's work.

Summer Madness

David Holmes offers a new track for the latest Late Night Tales release. Kurangbin, a three piece band from Houston, Texas deliver a brilliant version of Kool and the Gang's Summer Madness. They replaced the synthesizers form the original for relaxed sparkling electric guitar sounds over a trip-hop based floor. A band I will investigate for more.

Monday's Long Song

True Detective - Die neuen Folgen sind mit Staffel 1 verbunden

Keith (aka Keefus) Ciancia is an American musician, composer and music producer. Together with T-Bone Burnette he produced film and television soundtracks. They created the great soundtrack for True Detectives and he also worked with the Coen-Brothers. He also produced an album by Jeff Bridges and this song is probably a result of this sessions. I found this little piece on David Holmes 2016 compilation Late Night Tales. A beautiful atmospheric sound that fits perfect to the words by Jeff Bridges.
