Monday's Long Song

Papir, a three-piece instrumental band from Copenhagen, has been featured here several times before. That hasn't changed with the release of their latest album IX a few days ago. They remain true to their minimalism by not giving album titles and songs names and simply numbering them. 

The fact that it contains no lyrics, but thrives solely on the pulse, form, atmosphere, and texture of their instrumental collaboration, actually fits very well into the picture: a bold move in times of market saturation and thousands of bands writing all kinds of things on their gigantic sails.

They continue to move between krautrock, psychedelic rock, and instrumental jams with jazzy influences. The fact that they can't manage to write “proper” songs doesn't matter as long as they can maintain this level of quality.

After my review of this year's album just a few tracks that wasn't named enumeration but still worth to be named at this place right now.

Papir, a three piece Copenhagen based released their seventh album a few days ago. Still the album has no name except the number of the release and the songs are numbered from 7.1 to 7.4. And also nothing new but still high class instrumental songs with a sparkling guitar over a relaxed rhythm section. They celebrate a 60's minimalist, psychedelic guitar sound with influences of a bit of jazz. Always a sound to relax after a hard day working.

El Paraiso is the record label that gave us Kanaan I featured last Monday and one of that holds up the flag of psychedelic rock. Another band from this label that is worth to be featured is Papir, a three-piece band from Copenhagen, Denmark and active since a few years. Based on a powerful drum sound they create instrumental journeys in psychedelic sounds with hypnotic grooves they probably learned by Can to develop into powerful fuzzy psychedelic guitar. Their melodic side is borrowed by Michael Rother. This is music that don't need vocals because you can lose yourself in this sound. Their mannirism is that their albums and songs has no names because they only use roman numerals instead.
