If I Only Could Remember My Name

In 1971, now over 50 years ago, David Crosby released his first solo album. I found this again when I made safety copy on my external drive and I couldn't resist listening to it once again. This album is one of those from the early 70's that is still worth to listen from time to time not only for one that always liked his voice. It has this kind of westcoast sound based on blues and filled with great harmonies. As far as I know many artists from associated bands like Jefferson Airplane, Grateful Dead and CSN&Y supported him on this album. This is retro sound of course but I think there were less musicians today who are able to make records like these.

Monday's Long Song

In 1970 Brinsley Schwarz released their eponymous first self titled album and it is one that was a good friend to me over decades. Someone named them as a blend of Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Bob Dyland and The Band, Buffalo Springfield with a heavy dose of early Yes and I can agree to this description. For me they were the unbeatable band of the pub-rock days and their songs were always a pleasure to listen to. Their debut album showed more roots in rock music before they drifted into country albums later. And it was Nick Lowe who wrote the most songs and shows his abilities on writing great songs. Maybe the reason I like this album is that they turned away from rhythm and blues and added country blues to it. It is  unbelievable that this record still sounds fresh after almost 50 years.

Monday's Long Song

Bildergebnis für torgeir waldemar

Norway's Torgeir Waldemar released during the last years albums and each was different to the others. From acoustic rock songs to a fuzz dominated album over a mixture of both he tried everything between. Now he released Love and he left all behind. The whole album carries the spirit of early Neil Young with harmonies I didn't heard during the last years and reminds me at the best times of CSN&Y.  The leading song of this album is the epic Black Ocean, that opens proceedings in storm gathering, clattery background percussion and jittery synths before it turns into syncopated rhythms and fuzz guitar with an tribal-funk groove. This song sums up everything this fantastic album if offering you.
