Love Scenes

Last week Heavenly Records released the second compilation of Balearic Breakfast curated by Colleen 'Cosmo' Murphy. For me a bit better than volume one. Just because it is full of smooth grooves, great voices and spending me the atmosphere of sitting in Ibiza with a cool cocktail in my hand and watching the sun go down. If you need to dive into this sound there would be no better song than Love Scenes by Hard Feelings. It is a sound Roisin Murphy could made but I think Amy Douglas sung this song with her powerful and dramatic voice over of danceable beat. A perfect sound for the summer.

The Great Adventure

Yesterday we had bank holiday remembering the German reunification once again. I went out to meet some friends for some drinks and talking about this and that. When I came back after a good time I had to go to check a musical recommendation one of my friends gave me. The name Max Essa was new to me and also his music. In the web I couldn't find more that he is producer and DJ since the 90's and released some songs on Warp and Is It Balearic labels and now living in Tokyo, Japan. You can file his music under balearic but it is too easy and not fair because he is celebrating relaxed guitar sounds over a true balearic beat. Not the next big thing but one you surely have a listen to.

It is always a surprise when Sir Weatherall presents his monthly mix on NTS-Radio and I am sure Adam will post the whole show soon. It is a song based on electric beats by Spanish producer Manuel Chachero aka JackWasFaster. This mixture of obscure Balearic, dark disco and raw house is almost perfect and unique. Another gift he gave to us and something more to explore. Got it on tape for the rest of summer.

Shine On You Crazy Diamond

It is two weeks ago when I arrived in Sri Lanka. Since then I did nothing more than sitting by the beachside and watching waves. I know it sounds boring but I just wanted it in this way. I needed some time to get my regular business out of minds and sort private life. Imade many minds about me, my life, my planes and the future. Also wanted to see how C.'s business is runninng. It is very hard to start a little business down there because for everything you want to fix you need a straw man. And a dummy like this is hard to find, in fact to find someone you can trust is very hard. But finally we found a person we hope we can trust to. Right now we plan to buy a house and start running a little guest house with a little restaurant. We also looked some houses and finally found the ideal place.

After all I had a real good time here, especially at Christmas eve. They are not really into celebrating this day but for the western guests they decorated the beach with lights and placed some trees on the beach. In the evening they booked a DJ for party Normally they play some Techno and House. Because I am very close to the owener of the beachbar I got the chance to use the equipment for an hour and play some of my tracks. I offered them a mix of reggae, dub, balearic and some of Drew's dance tracks as well. Was funny to do this again.

May all of you have a good start into the new year and stay well.
