The hectic period of my move (in the truest sense of the word) is in full swing. Most of the furniture and my record collection are already in the new flat. Now it’s time to move all the smaller items. Which means lugging everything down the stairs and back up again. I don’t want to complain, but it makes the job so much easier when there’s music playing in the background.
I can’t say why I chose an album by Julian Cope to serve as background music for my work. Presumably, though, it’s simply because I like it and haven’t listened to it for ages. Self Civil War was released six years ago and showcases every facet of Cope’s songwriting skills. The album is brimming with lo-fi, Krautrock-inspired rock tracks and folk ballads. It’s an album that’s often overlooked in his extensive discography.

Good luck with the heavy lifting. Remember to bend your knees not your back.
Good luck Walter.
Great album choice.
Hope the flitting goes well
Good to know the Germans also use the word 'lugging' for carrying large and or heavy things.
I’m a week late to the comments, Walter, so I hope this finds you several steps closer to completing the move to your new home.
And I can’t think of a single event where the Arch Drude doesn’t have a song (or album) to meet the occasion, so I’m pleased that Self Civil War stepped up for your move.
But “background music”? Julian Cope? Never! ;-)
