Radio Birdman

 

From time to time I go back in musical history to sound I used to listen to almost 50 years ago. It was the time when new and fresh sounds came to my ears and my local record dealer recommended a new band to me. Radio Birdman were an Australian rock band formed in 1974 in Sydney and later filed under punk-rock. For me it was in these days nothing more or less than classic rock songs played very fast. But this was exactly what I needed in these days. Listening to their songs today sentimental memories from these days come to my mind and I think Radio Birdman are the link between rock 'n' roll and the new kind of music that became famous in the next decade. Their legacy that they brought a kind of aggressive sound into the Australian music scene.

When I read the news that Radio Birdman played a sensational gig in Hamburg I was surprised that the the first original punks are still alive and kicking. Seems like they persuaded the audience a few days ago. I think that it's time to feature them here one more time. They were one of the first ever punk rock bands in down under. Without their influence maybe The Saints wouldn't be possible. Listening to them is still awesome and it makes me remind to the good old times when music was fresh, new and solid. So let's listen to a sound long time ago.

Radio Birdman

Radio Birdman was a band from down under playing punk music when punk not really was born. Their main legacy was their towering influence over Australian Indie rock in the 1980s as well as The Saints. Today only a few fans know them and their output. For me they were a band that made a few very good albums and sadly they were forgotten. So enjoy these little gems.
