Another New Psychedelic Band

A few days ago a friend of mine sent me a link to Moon Relay on bandcamp. It is from a band from Oslo, the Norwegian capital. And I have to admit that I never heard anything from them before. Their sound is something between post-punk of the early 80's mixed with early Talking Heads funk. Not the one that you can agree from the first chords but one of those that get closer the more you listen to them. A brilliant mixture of music from the past and played with nowadays abilities. And I really don't know what they were thinking about naming their songs with special characters.

Old Enough To Know Better

The Pink Fairies are back with a new album Resident Reptiles. Legends from the London underground scene of the early 70's they were a bit of musical anarchists playing their very own style of psychedelic rock. Heavy influenced by drugs they played a combination of good-time rock and a lot of other inspirations of different genres. I couldn't nail them on one sound so I was surprised that a band that was active more than 40 years ago now releases a new album. Members of the band worked with bands like Motorhead, Hawkwind and Pretty Things but were true to their very own sound. Listening to these old school guitars it takes me back to long forgotten days of heavy psyche rock. And it sounds fresh what some old folks playing. Probably the comeback album of a band lost in music history in this year

Thee Oh Sees are the band from San Francisco and are to release a new album. Their primary songwriter John Dwyer mix up again influences by garage rock, psychedelic rock and post-punk to his unique sound. Sentinent Oona is a spaced out song that is based on percussive verses that go to wild sections of outer space jazz where Dwyer's guitar battles with organ sounds.

Some Australian Psychedelic For Your Pleasure

Listening to new songs/sounds the recent days the more I think that young kids stepping backwards with knowing the psychedelic sounds of the late 60's. One example are Brisbane's Sacred Shrines. Torn between the sound of acid inspired flower power culture and Dream Sydincate's Days Of Wine And Roses they make a great unique sound of their own. If you are a bit into these sound so you should give them a listen.



Another band following these origins is Melbourne based The Black Heart Death Cult.. Learned by various psych-rock legends they combine their sound with ingredients of Brit-pop. It is like Oasis experimenting with My Bloody Valentine. I know this is namedropping but it is new, fresh and bracing.
