We all know the Bristol sound from the 80's that came smooth and rhythm to our ears but there was a band that appeared in 1981 with a very fresh sound inspired by NWC's Nu-punk sound. Based on funky rhythms, a weird saxophone and fantastic vocals they were something different an new. Sadly they were just a small notice in music history but listening to them decades ago it still sounds fresh, new and unique. It is mixture of post-punk, funk and no-wave and I didn't listen to this kind of music for long time. Glad to remember them again.

Safe And Sound
These days I found something new by French electronic artists and musician Justice. The made one of the best electronic/dance-floor records in 2007. It is simply called Cross and I listened often to this records back in these days. It is a record full of great ideas and melodrama. Now they are going to release a new record and Safe and Sound was the first track they release as a single. It seems like funk returned into music with a fat and oily bass-line added with choir and strings. Sometimes I can hear Daft Punk in this smooth song.

Wrong Club
The greater Manchester area based pop duo The Ting Tings released with their last single a pog song for the end of summer. Starting with a groovy bass line Katie White's voice appears and leads the song into a fantastic funk/disco/pop-groove.

Run Daddy Run
Weekends over and another working week ahead. This week C. will come back from Sri Lanka to watch out what's to be done in the next weeks. For me it's just another busy week ahead in which I don't know what problems in our projects I should be work. Anyway, let's start this week with a song from Fun Lovin' Criminals a New York based band who plays a fantastic mixture of alternative rock, hip hop, funk, blues and jazz. As a band, they cover such issues as organized crime, recreational drug use, violence, poverty and politics. Their songs are often gritty or existentialist in nature, but are just as often humorous or satirical. One of my favorites is Run, Daddy, Run which shows their abilities maybe the best. It's a very good mixture of the styles I described.
Have a good start into the week people

The Foreign Correspondent - Stories About German Rock Music # 13
The Jazzkantine (jazz canteen) is a jazz rap band from Braunscheig. They was founded in 1993, inspired by Guru's Jazzmatazz, by Ole Sander, Matthias Lanzer and Christian Eitner. Characteristically for the music of Jazzkantine is the mixture of the different style elements of the rap, funk and jazz. The band co-operated on it to so different artists like Smudo (from an also famous German rap band The Fantastic Four), Götz Alsmann (well known in Germany for working together with big bands) and bands like Such A Surge. If I have to describe their music it is like you make some German rap voer music and beats heavenly influenced by regular jazz standards interpreted in a very funky and danceable way. In the course of the years Jazzkantine have experimented themselves the group with different styles like combining heavy rock, blues and German folk songs with their kind of sound. Nowadays the came back to their roots playing their origin sound added with famous jazz musicians. The songs are from their second record Heiss und fettig (hot and fatty):
