Let's have a start into the new week with an ambient sound by Milwaukee's Erik Kowalski aka Casino Versus Japan. I know that a lot of people close their ears when they read that the music was named ambient. But what is ambient? Isn't it a bit of relaxed music you can get lost into? For me it is this way. I have to admit that I am not deep into this kind of music but have to say that this record is a perfect introduction to this kind of music. Based on a guitar sound he takes loops and some kind of shoegaze to create an unique ambient sound. One of the most relaxed albums this year so far.

The Follower

Let's continue and finish with new ambient music for this week. Alex Willner aka The Field is an Berlin based Swedish DJ and producer and he released his latest album the recent days. It is a sound wrapped around some loops. It could be a fragment of a song or only a guitar lick but he makes something different and unique out of it. You can call it ambient-techno-pop or whatever. This song is about to last for longer than a few days. Not the worst thing to say about something new.

There are new songs out from Austin's ambient space cowboys Thousand Feet Whale Claw. Back with a couple of new songs between ambient, Krautrock and walls of synths. It sounds like music from outer space on dope.

Sasha (born Alexander Paul Coe) is a Welsh DJ and producer and released a record with out-takes made during the last years. Known as one of the best house DJ he has more to offer than this. This songs are a trip through ambient, downtempo, electronic and the music of Nils Frahm. Perfect music for Sunday morning and a cup of coffee.

A long time ago I posted a song by Thousend Foot Whale Claw, Phobos, a quartet from Austin, Texas. I don't know much about them and they release less records. Phobos is one of these songs I could listen to very often because it is something special. Deeply based in electronic music with a lot of reverences to Krautrock. Their songs are mostly extended and sound like ambient outer space samples and minimal percussion. Sounds like a psychedelic trip into space.

A Dub Transmission

Found this little masterpiece from Bill Laswell a few days ago. It's one of the collaborations with another bass players. Here is a fine laid back tune with another hero of bass and dub: Jah Wobble. Music for later evenings when you sit relaxed with a good glass of red vine and you can get lost in music. I think that I should hear The Golden Palominos again.

Symbiosis

My Brother Martin recommended the first album by London Grammar a few days ago as one of his top records of 2013. Curiously what kind of music they play I searched for the record and was astonished how good they are. It's a perfect symbiosis between ambient and ethereal sound added with a melancholy guitar and the powerful voice of Hannah Reid which reminds me a little bit to Florence Welch. They released their first full record a few weeks ago and entered the top ten in Australia and France. Give them a chance - it will be worth.

Searching the roots of ambient or so called world music you can't ignore Brian Eno and David Byrne. While Eno worked mostly as a producer and Byrne was still a member of Talking Heads they got some time to make a record which was quite ahead of the times in 1981. In this time ist was very ambitious and had the usual listening habits put to the test. Listening to this music 30 years later I recognize a lot of ingredients I hear in nowadays Trance and Ambition music. So let's raise the glass to yesterday's heroes which was always one step ahead.
