November

Another month has passed and the end of the year is fast approaching. The first Christmas decorations are already being put up in the cities and sweets are being draped in the supermarkets. For me, however, it means that my annual holiday is not too far away.

A song with the month of November in the title was not difficult, as Andres A song with the month of November in the title was not difficult, as Andres Trentemøller quickly came to mind. The Danish musician and producer released Fixion in 2016, his fifth album on which he indulges his passion for the post-punk and new wave of the 80's. Instead of intelligent bass lines, organic band sounds take centre stage here.

November sounds as if The Cure had rediscovered a piece from their early days. A song that could easily have been released on Disintegration and is more a further development of The Cure than a copy.

On Sinus, he changes the sound by starting with a powerful bass and then creating a dystopian sound that is strongly inspired by Vangelis and Blade Runner and conveys a retrofuturistic metropolitan atmosphere.

Phoenicia is a song that builds up a hypnotic tension with psychedelic organ loops, which are fulminantly released at the end. Spacemen 3 may have been the inspiration here.

A Different Light

Today starts the meteorological summer and the forecast that we could expect steady rain during the next days. In this constellation, I can stay at home with a clear conscience and finally finish reading the books that have been waiting too long and reorganize my record collection. The soundtrack to it could be something like Trentemøller, a Danish indie/electronic music producer and was featured at this place a couple of times. Now he is going to release a new album later this year and he released a first appetizer. With A Different Light he includes elements of folk into his music. Dark wave meets dreampop, and acoustic guitar meets synth lines and wistful vocals seems to be right according the weather.

2022 Long Part III

Let's finish my musical review of this year's music. The collaboration of Sonic Boom and Panda Bear came unexpected but gave us a lot of great songs with great harmonies, melodies and a massive retro-charm.

The Pink Album by Unloved was one of highlights this year. A psychedelic synthesis of dark pop, 60's girl group sounds, ambient patterns and dance floor undertones makes this album remarkable.

Danish producer Andres Trentemoller made an album that was especially for me because I love the way he can create electronic sounds. Many songs have a somber aura but listening more than one time you can see the magic of his musical cosmos in Memoria.

One of the best albums of this year came out early this year. Flicker by Andy Bell conglomeration of very different sounds from the last decades and full of ideas, melodies, hooks and great songs. Always a pleasure to come back to this great album.

Spiritualized came back with Everything Was Beautiful an album that shows everything I expected form the Jason Pierce' beginnings over his krautrock phase to his last album. Nothing more or less a great album.

Every year is a good year, when Michael Head releases a new album. Dear Scott is more than I expected. Still on a high level with his distinctive voice and a lot of great songs he returned as my favorite solo artist.

Dead Or Alive

Copenhagen's Anders Trentemøller is back with a few more tracks from his upcoming album and he turned into darker and noisy style. A track that features another side of him. There is nothing to add to the press information to this song:

A hooky bass line opens the track, ultimately taunting whip-crack drums into entering an unabating duel. Oscillating echoes materialize, like murmurs from the netherworld, eventually culminating into actual voices.

Shaded Moon

Anders Trentemøller is back with a few new songs after a couple of new songs as well as the Danish team in the European championship. With his new songs he move back to his early influences like Joy Division or Slowdive. Shaded Moon starts like an outtake of a session by Joy Division and The Cure with a deep tuned bass and moves towards pulsating synths. An unexpected and superb return by him and one of the best songs this year so far.
