Bildergebnis für cabaret voltaire band

It was back in the mid 80's when Sheffield based electronic post punk band Cabaret Voltaire got new facets into the musical scene. Formed in the early 70's they explored the possibilities of combining new wave attitudes with electronic sounds. Together with bands like Throbbing Gristle they showed us how electronic music and dancefloor music can live together. Their EP Drinking Gasoline was a milestone of pre-dancefloor music and made my ears open to some very different sounds. I think without this basics I couldn't get into house, trance and modern space music.

Algiers

Bildergebnis für algiers band

Algiers, a band from Georgia, Atlanta released their second album a few days ago. They were known as a very political band speaking and singing about the things that are necessary in these days. Their sound is a crude mixture of gospel/soul with post punk and industrial. I know this sounds to be impossible but it works on this record. Although they are famous for their live performances I saw them last year and I have to say I was disappointed about them. Most of the time I saw pictures in the background of the famous Black Panther leaders from the late 60's but the music and the show didn't touched me at all. So I was surprised how good their latest album is. Intelligent verses on a sound that has influences of Gil Scott Heron on the one side and the impact of early PIL/Throbbing Gristle. It is like they celebrating a black mess. Definitely one of the best records this year so far.

October Love Song And More

Bildergebnis für chris and cosey

When Throbbing Gristle, one of the most influential band in Industrial Music, broke two of them members formed Chris & Cosey. From now on they were no more in to create scandal and tried to put some pop in their music. But they still have the main ingredients of TG: monotone bass, weird sythesizer sound and a blurred voice. Not everyone's cup of coffee for sure but I think it's worth to remember them sometimes.
