Feast Of Wire

During the last years Calexico, the Tucson, Arizona based band released in regular intervals deluxe editions of their albums to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their releases (and to sell them to the fans as well). Since Joey Burns and John Convertino formed Calexico after they left Giant Sand I followed them. Each album was a highlight in the year it was released and I enjoyed their unique mix of Americana, Tex-Mex and Morricone-mariachi influenced sound. Always a pleasure to come back to those guys from time to time.

Calexico - Dub Latina

Return To The Valley Of Rain

Bildergebnis für Giant Sand

Back in 1985 Giant Sand released their first record Valley Of Rain a forgotten nugget of Americana music. Howe Gelb showed his talent on writing songs on this album. Many artists look back to their first record with a smile and often they deny their early days. Gelb took the other way and played the whole first album live in a club in Austin. The result is a superb country/Americana album. The songs are played faster and the guitar is more dominant than before. I saw them live a couple of time long time ago and this albums shows well that they are live much better than in a studio.

The Foreign Corresondent Returns - Stories About German (Rock) Music # 46

--

There is with certainty a lot what one with Germany connects, but with certainty not Country music. But there is one band that I used to listen during the last years a lot. Fink were an independent band that was formed by Nils Koppruch in Hamburg in the mid 90s in Hamburg. Main influences were bands like Lambchop and Giant Sand. During the years they have extended their style by reggae, chansons and a little bit of funk. Very briefly I love her music above all at later time in the evening with a good glass of red wine. Simply relaxing and a perfect finish after a busy day.
