Frozen In Time

 

The meteorological summer ends today, although another heatwave has been announced for next week. I normally associate soul music more with autumn and spring, when it's cold and rainy outside and soul can warm the soul. So it is all the more surprising that an album has been released these days that is so retro and holds the flag of blue eyed soul high.

So it's all the more surprising that Los Yesterdays is a band from Los Angeles presenting a debut album that is deeply rooted in rhythm and blues. Responsible for this are Gabriel Rowland and Victor Benavides, who spice up their songs with acoustic Mexican guitars, but this does not detract from the songs.Frozen In Time is a coherent album that loses itself in the glamour of years gone by, is in tune with the times and sounds like something from another era. They themselves call it a new soul record built for old souls. I couldn't describe it any better.
