You Do Right

Bildergebnis für can band

What a few horrible days at work since I came back from my break. A lot of colleges were off to waste their last leave entitlement and my boss as well. He's hanging around in Jamaica but I suppose that he won't ever get a feeling to the people and the culture. So he left us with a big lot of jobs to do that should be executed until the end of next week. So I hurry from right to left to fulfil his needs as possible as I am able to. The last days I came home after a ten hour work at the office and I wanted nothing more than a beer with my mates after work. But be sure - there are brighter days ahead. Until then I relax with a classic Krautrock by Can. Still a band that was groundbreaking in this genre. It is almost 40 years ago since they released this song. If you have the time than take a journey to German Krautrock/Psychedelia and relax as well as I do this sound.

From The In-Box

From all the music that arrived during the last weeks only less music is worth to listen more than one song. Oddly these time it was basically electronic music that is worth to feature at this place.

The first one is by an Italian artist based in Rome. Tony Aurino is the man behind 2A at the Playground. He studied piano and drums, built his own home studio to realize his first full record. His songs are based on a handmade drum-sound added with ingredients influenced by Led Zeppelin, Beastie Boys and Chemical Brothers. How to describe his sound? Probably a perfect mixture of blues influenced electrical Trip Hop. And as a compliment - not only to copy them - it's more something very own.

The next band Athyrium is one I know less about. The internet tells me that it is a specious of fern (in this way lady-fern). The band/project is based in Seattle and obtain their inspiration on Bristol based Trip Hop. They do it in their way and their songs are well worth to listen. Downtempo songs with great voices. Not too bad for a new band.

The last one is very different to the ones before. 12 Cents For Marvin is from the new record by a band that is still together since 20 years. Playing their very own version of a ska-influenced pop, rock and reggae sound. If they show live their enthusiasm to this music it will be worth to join them for a beer or two

More By The (Real) King

Bildergebnis für augustus pablo meets king tubby

Yesterday morning started with reading the posts of our friends and Adam surprised me with five magnificent lines about King Tubby and Blood and Fire-records. Listening to the offered song there was no way out for me to catch a whole album by King Tubby from my collection and listen to it again after years. I've chosen King Tubby's collaboration with Augustus Pablo Meets Rockers
Uptown. Almost forgot how great this record is. A timeless masterpiece of Jamaican dub. It is all we need - some great bass, sparce guitar and horns or Augustus' melodica lines. Not the worst way to start into the new week.

Nick Murphy or better known by his stage name Chet Faker is an Australian singer and songwriter doing his interpretations of modern soul during the last years. He found my attention with a collaboration with probably Australia's most popular DJ (in my opinion the most overrated) and a few remixes. Grown up with Motown soul and Ibiza chill out CD's he now returns with his very own electric soul with a greater touch of rock behind a accented bass.

Memories From My Vacation To The USA

Bildergebnis für pet shop boys live 2016

Last week were were out for a concert by The Pet Shop Boys in Saint Petersburg. My mate is a huge fan of the 80's dance sound (and to 80's new wave as well). He found out that they were playing at a smaller venue in Florida. It was more a concert hall than an event for club music. I am not used to watch a concert in a comfortable seat and didn't expected much because I gave my mate a favour. But I was surprised what came to me. A total clear sound with massive basses made made me feel like being in a club. The laser show was perfect and took the music to another level. Almost forgot how many songs PSB made during the last years that were still on my mind. After all it were two hours of really joy that took me back to the early days of pop-dance-floor sound and I have to say that they are pioneers in danceable music with their very own and unique sound fitting to a lot of people.

Memories From My Vacation To The USA

Bildergebnis für the passions

I have to go back to the days when I stayed in Florida a few weeks ago. When we drove from one place to another we used to listen to the radio. What was new to me there are a lot of stations playing their music on satellite radio. Most of them played music that was classified in various genres. Old school rock, high school guitar sound or hit stations were often found. We found a radio station that played new wave music from the early 80's all day long. There were so many bands I forgot about them during the last years and was so surprised to listen to their songs on the air. One of those bands are The Passions, a British post-punk band formed in the late 70's. They disbanded in 1983 after the release of a few LP's. When I came home I grabbed out their first record Michael & Miranda from 1980 and listen to their old fashioned songs. But they are still worth to listen again with their bass dominated and retard guitar sound with the voice of Barbara Gogan. Guitar player Clive Timberley played former together with Joe Strummer by The 101ers. Not too bad requirements for a bigger career. Sadly they are just another forgotten  band in the history.

Back from across the Atlantic ocean and almost passed the jet-lag jet. Had myself a relaxed and amazing time over there (don't want to talk about the election again). Listened a lot to American music while I was out riding in the car. I heard this new song by Kristin Hersh first over there and it is a typical new American folk-rock song. Since she released her overwhelming My Ghost she was on my radar. This new one is not on the same level but still a song I will listen often in the next weeks - not only because of the memories I have when I listened it the first time. And it also a nice start into the new working week for me.

Old Vine In New Bottles

It is 7 days ago Leonard Cohen passed away. I listened a lot to his songs the recent days and got aware what a great poet we lost. He was also an artist that songs was covered by various artists during the last decades. So I grab the chance to feature a few of them here.

Another One Passed Away

What a week. First Trump got elected and now the news arrived that Leoard Cohen died last night. I don't have to tell about his influence during the last decades. Remember him and his somber voice as something unique. Echorich found the right words and songs.

A Nightmare Came True

https://youtu.be/zCkNu9OxThc

Yesterday evening I followed the election results on American TV and we all couldn't believe what happened. Trump won presidentcy. What does it mean that a maggot like him is the leader of the western world? Not only that he's the president - the republic party has the majority to correct any descision that was made during the last eight years. It seems that we have to accept that populism rules the game. And I see dark clouds rising looking forward to the next elections in Europe. Trump across the Atlantic ocean and Turkish dictator Erdogan on the east makes me worry about our children's future. Just got the news that the online site for American immigration to Canada broke down. This make a little hope that not everyone over here agrees to what happened.

Blake Bastion

https://youtu.be/b46JYhV25ew

Another new artist is waiting to be featured on this pages. I named him already a few days ago when I introduced Manchester singer Land. Rob Blake aka Blake Bastion is a Brighton based singer and guitar player. He released his EP Hummingbird a few weeks ago and I was impressed about the powerful voice and the way he plays his accoustc guitar. His voice sometims reminds on Jeff Buckley and his guitar sound is in the tradition of the late 60 guitar heroes but in a special nowaday sound. Something special for almost everyone who is in the mood for real handmade music.

Florida, Here I Come

Shauna is doing a well job promoting new artists. On last bank holiday I checked out the emails about new artists from the last months. I was astonished how many great artists appeared on the scene and I didn't heard any note so far. In fact that I will go for holiday to Florida tomorrow for two weeks (I think there will be no more posts until I come back) there are some bands you ought to listen. Young, fresh and deeply based in 80's tradition.

First I want to introduce probably Melbourne's best new psychedelic band. Some might file them under shoegaze but they have more to offer than this. This song could be great if it was released 20 years ago. A bizarre mixture of rhythmic guitar chords overlaid with a sweet sound of the leading voice.

The next one's are from Boston based band Dyr Fazer. It is a 3-peace ensemble making a very unique mixture of darkwave, psychedelic, shoegaze, Krautrock and dream-pop. Very worth to listen and if they could get enough airplay they might get more well known.

In conclusion another band that could be typed to shoegaze. Stella Diana is a band from Naples/Italy. Influenced by classic post-punk bands like Joy Division, The Chameleons, Durutti Column and the Echoe's the combine it with 90's bands like Pale Saints and Slowdive. Very good songs from a record released a few month ago. Try and make a decision of your own.

A New Singer/Songwriter To Me

Bildergebnis für daniel land bandcamp

Another artist that appeared by promotion the recent days was Manchester singer/songwriter Daniel Land. He impressed me with his unique voice and a sound that is far ahead of fashion. Perfectly arranged songs with a lot of feelings in it makes him one of the most interesting new artists in this genre. I really enjoy his songs especially to end the day with.

Tom Robinson said about him: The sort of stripped down, laid back sound employed by bands like Mojave 3, but with the gauzey textures of the Cocteau Twins.

I only can agree to this words and that is not the worst to say about a new artist.
