Wide Awake

In late 80s the American SST-Label was very hip. They released some very good stuff by Hüsker Dü, Meat Puppets, Firehose and Sonic Youth. This label have paved the way for guitar based alternative rock. Beside Soundgarden were Dinosaur Jr. the main successful label artist in this genre. At this time I liked the way J. Masics played his guitar and his sad voice. That he can use a guitar is shown on these few outtakes.

SST was my first record label love. Seven Inch Wonders of the World was the most precious release in my collection as a kid. It was all the singles they had released up until 84 maybe. Minutemen, Husker Du, Wurm's version of Time Has Come Today is ridiculous. Black Flag!

I loved Dinosaur Jr. when they showed up. Living All Over Me still gets lots of airtime.

While I loved Husker Du, I wasn't too sure about Dinosaur JR, apart from Freak Scene, which is superb.

Most of the bands on SST was about to love even they are very different. While most of the bands acted as a band, Dinosaur Jr. was ruled by J. Masics and his guitar. Seems like a new series begins to start

Let's not forget The Descendents, Angst and Gone too. These J.Mascis tunes are great.
