Blake Bastion

https://youtu.be/b46JYhV25ew

Another new artist is waiting to be featured on this pages. I named him already a few days ago when I introduced Manchester singer Land. Rob Blake aka Blake Bastion is a Brighton based singer and guitar player. He released his EP Hummingbird a few weeks ago and I was impressed about the powerful voice and the way he plays his accoustc guitar. His voice sometims reminds on Jeff Buckley and his guitar sound is in the tradition of the late 60 guitar heroes but in a special nowaday sound. Something special for almost everyone who is in the mood for real handmade music.

Florida, Here I Come

Shauna is doing a well job promoting new artists. On last bank holiday I checked out the emails about new artists from the last months. I was astonished how many great artists appeared on the scene and I didn't heard any note so far. In fact that I will go for holiday to Florida tomorrow for two weeks (I think there will be no more posts until I come back) there are some bands you ought to listen. Young, fresh and deeply based in 80's tradition.

First I want to introduce probably Melbourne's best new psychedelic band. Some might file them under shoegaze but they have more to offer than this. This song could be great if it was released 20 years ago. A bizarre mixture of rhythmic guitar chords overlaid with a sweet sound of the leading voice.

The next one's are from Boston based band Dyr Fazer. It is a 3-peace ensemble making a very unique mixture of darkwave, psychedelic, shoegaze, Krautrock and dream-pop. Very worth to listen and if they could get enough airplay they might get more well known.

In conclusion another band that could be typed to shoegaze. Stella Diana is a band from Naples/Italy. Influenced by classic post-punk bands like Joy Division, The Chameleons, Durutti Column and the Echoe's the combine it with 90's bands like Pale Saints and Slowdive. Very good songs from a record released a few month ago. Try and make a decision of your own.

A New Singer/Songwriter To Me

Bildergebnis für daniel land bandcamp

Another artist that appeared by promotion the recent days was Manchester singer/songwriter Daniel Land. He impressed me with his unique voice and a sound that is far ahead of fashion. Perfectly arranged songs with a lot of feelings in it makes him one of the most interesting new artists in this genre. I really enjoy his songs especially to end the day with.

Tom Robinson said about him: The sort of stripped down, laid back sound employed by bands like Mojave 3, but with the gauzey textures of the Cocteau Twins.

I only can agree to this words and that is not the worst to say about a new artist.

Wreck

Bildergebnis für the history of colour tv

Yesterday was the last bank holiday in Southern Germany for this year and I found time to check out the what promotion offers arrived during the last weeks. A lot of them is not worth listening to because it is the same other artists did better. I don't wanna blame any artist for making the music he likes but music should grab me by listening the first time.

One of those that made me want to listen to was The History Of Colour TV. The Berlin-based trio melts different kind of styles in their very unique sound. Influences of progressive rock combined with a collision of majestic pop melodies and rivet gun industrial swathes of noise with a sub current of drone (said by Louder Than War) describes their sound best. Wreck is the first single of their forthcoming third album Something Like Eternity. Looking forward to their full length record.

Old Vine In New Bottles

Bildergebnis für cowboy junkies

While a perfect cover can change a song almost beyond recognition, sometimes it takes just a few taps of the chisel, as it were, to turn a great song into a perfect one. Cowboy Junkies didn't actually made radical changes to two classics by Velvet Underground and Neil Young. They adopted the essentials and the spirit of these songs. Reduced to a sleepy, almost narcotized pace they stripped the songs to a minimum. The result are two timeless cover versions.

Patch The Sky

Bildergebnis für bob mould

A new week with lot of work ahead but also a few weeks off from Saturday on. Looking forward for the days in Florida visiting an old friend of mine. Not knowing what he has planed for the time we spent the time together but I am sure we will have a great time hanging around together. In the meantime I spent the time listening to former Hüsker Dü frontman Bob Mould and his latest record Patch The Sky. In my opinion one of the best rock records of this year. It's a record with a dark atmosphere but full of energy. A record full of straight guitar sounds and songs with magnificent refrains and blurred chords. No empty phrases, no circumlocutions and no platitudes. Great the more you listen to it.
