3WW

Bildergebnis für alt-j

The song for this Sunday morning comes by Leeds' Alt-J and is just released as their new single. I got them on my radar since they won the Mercury Prize a few years ago. I enjoyed their combination of neo-folk and electronic music but forgot them during the last years. So I was astonished that they still on the scene. This song 3WW (don't have any idea what it means) is one of these songs that creeps slowly into your ears. It starts with a initial section of very slow electronic meditative beats to turn later into classic structures. These days I read this note about this song:

3WW’s dreaminess is capped off with a dose of reality, as an incongruent, distorted guitar slowly fuzzes in and Wolf Alice’s Ellie Roswell offers a sort of riposte to the narrator’s memory of the night.

The thing I like about Alt-J is that you never quite know what to expect. This track sounds very different to anything they've done before, yet if I didn't know it was them already, I might still have guessed it was Alt-J. It's a grower, I think.

6Music have been playing this a lot and it is indeed a grower. A very impressive tune.

I like that. Alt-J are a very hit or miss band for me, but that's definitely more hit than miss.

I had no idea they were from Leeds - just down the road from me!
