Episodes

Somewhere I read that John Heart Jackie will release their new record Episodes these days. I thought by myself this will be another folk-rock album by an New York based singer-songwriter duo. But the article lead my to their homepage because it was a new way to promote a new record. Their website currtently functions as both information hub and total musical experience. The homepage consists of a faux-Tumbler feeds of GIFs and washed out images of fruit and sundry hipster signifieres, all while the opening track of Episodes play. This sort of layout continues for every song on the album and serves a streaming site and press kit rolled into me. I was so fascinated about the way of presenting a new record so I decided to write about it. JHJ are surely not the next big thing around but worth to listen to their songs. Mostly played in a slow mood with a delayed guitar, a loose snare drum and less doses of reverb. The songs were completed by Jenny Wayne's soft but rich voice. Many songs would be copied on tape for riding in a topless car.
