From The In-Box

Washington's post-punk / pop-punk band Dot Dash released their new album and give a free download of their new single:

Winter of Discontent

All in all 2 minutes and 6 seconds of good guitars, great harmonies and verve. I think power-pop would sound today like this. You can stream the whole album here.

Glad to get some new music from France. I know that there is a bigger scene in indie-rock, electronica and rap but it's hard to get the news from there. Alex & Friends is the band project by Pierre Alexander and he's deep into indie sound. His song have everything you might expect from this genre: massive guitars, good voices a superb bass and a hooks in their songs. Trés bien.

The Artisan Thieves give us earthy Americana with all the ingredients I expect to hear. Slowly picked electric guitars added with some acoustic guitar, a somber voice over an aerial sound. Perfect music when you can drive a rag-top open in summer.

The Artisan Thieves - Stone for Sand

Although I'm not really being a big fan of classical rock I would like to feature this band. The Bon Mots are not typically for this genre. They have better harmonies and songs like many others in this genre. Formed 15 years ago in Chicago they played a lot of gigs and appeared on the 2006 Lollapalooza festival. I think they are all musicians that play for ages and you can hear this on their perfect arranged songs.

From The In-Box

From Houston, Texas, arrived some fresh music. My first thought was 'Just another bluesy country band' or 'another singer/songwriter with a melancholic whiny voice'. But none of them is true. Keeton Coffman is that kind of songwriter which isn't too much involved in that folk sound. His music is also influenced by Americana and Indie-sounds. The songs come along with very good arrangements, laid back drums and over and over again very nice guitar licks are sprinkled. Over all is his fantastic voice: remarkable, very expressive and far away from shouting. If he would get enough airplay he and his songs might get great.

Another town but in the same state. Austin gives us Take Us To Tomorrow. Prog-rock in combination with Alternative guitars make a very own sound. While the band lose themselves on the quicker pieces often in improvisations they show us with the ballad Crustecean their skills. After starting with some guitar pick bass and drums appear to push this song forward.

The last one new artist for this week is Public Light, a project Sam Osheroff from Seattle stands behind. Another singer that is deep int the traditional singer-songwriter genre but with a very own voice that leads you to a relaxed time to listen. I like his deep voice much. It is some kind of laid back easy going sound I prefer riding in an open car along narrow streets in late spring.

Her Silver Pin

There was one artist that arrived in my inbox these days and he's too special to list him with the others. Kyle Fiske aka Atlantica Vox is a DIY-musician based in Rockport, Massachusetts. He describes his music as a modern retro-wave, with roots in late 70's/early 80's post-punk and new wave music with some reggae, ska, folk and electronica influence. Most songs were based on a some straight chords, effected with overdubs and hall and sung by a deep voice. I enjoy his guitar inspired music with his dark voice. All in all it's a great work for someone who plays all the instruments, writing the songs, producing and publish them. This songs should played in many stations.
