2021 - Short

I featured the other days albums that impressed me much and was played often at my place and I thought it was the time to write down the best songs of this year. Many of them you can find on the long posts and I have to admit that I am not the one that is able to finish the list because there were so many songs I heard the first time this year that made me happy once or several times. Other songs crossed my attention weeks later when I listened to them on my yearly playlist on Spotify where I collect new songs year by year. Looking at this playlist I find more than 200 songs and the more I think about it I can't decide which one would reach a top ten. So here are some songs, subjective of course and not showing the full range of music I listened too but still worth to be named when you look back on this year.

Monsters

During the last two years I featured Sophia Kennedy and her band Shari Vari a few times because their music mixed old and new to a very unique electronic pop sound. Now she is back with a new album and my expectations were fulfilled. Monsters is one of those pop albums with a fresh sound of flickering electronics, jazzy drums, beats, loops, guitars, strings, samples, synthesizer and her sometimes spoken sometimes rapping voice. An album that never gets boring because round the next corner you will be surprised by something unexpected.

Orange Tic Tac

Sophia Kennedy, a Baltimore born and now in Hamburg living musician, released the first single from her upcoming album the recent days. She was the half of pop-dance duo Shari Vari, which was featured on this place a half year ago. Since the first time I listened to her voice I was fascinated and thought she can't destroy a song with her voice. Now she is back with a single and video that reminds my on the story of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. It is a song commuting between glamorous pop and diabolic rap over a catchy beat.
